Soak Away the Aches & Pains~Lavender Mint Bath Salts

karla rodas

A couple of months ago, my sons started playing tennis almost daily. One fair morning I decided to join them. I don't have much cred for being athletically inclined but, I wanted to get some rays and do something active. It was so much fun. I laughed a lot. At myself mostly, for my futile attempts to return the ball but, I worked up a nice sweat and got some sun. My goals were humble, to move my feet and hit the ball. Check and check. Haha.

Later that night, the soreness crept up into my shoulder and upper back. From experience, I know that the best thing to do for those achey muscles is to soak it all away in a hot bath. From childhood, my Mom would always have epsom salt in the bathroom cabinet. For the past few years, I've experimented with epsom salts and essential oils. Epsom salt provides us with a boost of much needed magnesium. Most of us are deficient in this essential element. Magnesium is critical for the body/s many functions. It helps to normalize blood pressure, keep the bones strong and keep the heart rhythm steady.

Here are some incredible benefits from epsom salt:

  • Reduces inflammation
  • Relieves muscle soreness and pain
  • Helps to flush out toxins on a cellular level
  • Stress reliever
  • Provides joint pain relief

The relaxation and luxury of a warm bath are enough just on their own but it's also amazingly beneficial in so many ways. I like to take it to another level by adding essential oils to my salts. My favorites to use are lavender and mint essential oils. Lavender is known for it's calming effects and has been used throughout the years to help with insomnia. It's known to reduce anxiety and stress. It smells lovely and adding a few drops to your bath will lull you into a deep relaxed state.

I also use essential peppermint oil not only for the fresh scent but for it's many benefits such as pain relief. It helps with respiratory issues and soothes nausea and stomachaches. Using these two as a combo definitely knocks muscle aches and pains right out.

Over the past few years, I've made up special batches for friends. Nothing says love than a homemade and thoughtful gift. Here's a simple recipe for making Lavender Mint Bath Salts:

  • 2 Cups Epsom Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Baking Powder
  • 10 drops Peppermint Oil
  • 30 drops Lavender Oil

Try your hand using this simple recipe to make your own or I'm happy to whip some up for your last minute shopping needs. Put your order in and you're all set for your thoughtful gift giving. Enjoy.
